News & Views: If you build it, they will come

Newsletter – Tuesday, May 24, 2016

A farmer once said, "If you build it, they will come." Bill Tuscano once said, "Read this book and see if you can figure it out." Literally.

Bill handed Jinny the book that came with the first IBM PC he ever bought and asked her to figure it out. Back then, we operated on a shoestring but Bill was a man with a vision and an entrepreneurial spirit. Well before the days Tuscano Agency had a technology budget, we sought to improve our business practices and give our customers great service.

Technology is a wonderful thing. Build it, improve it and maintain it - it is a constant cycle. Along this journey Tuscano has built a customer portal (Toolbox) that provides our customers access to policy data, tools for accessing statements, making online payments, issuing certificates of insurance, making policy requests, and retrieving digital documents. We've built rating tools for some of our premier insurance programs: vacant dwellings and artisan contractors. And, we've empowered our customers to maintain their own user information and profiles. Along the way, we attempt to improve our tools and build new features. We care about what is important to you, so keep telling us!

Bill was also famous for renovating old buildings to occupy as office space. The first building the Tuscano Agency bought was an old gas station. Five years later he bought an old sundries store (complete with lunch counter) and connected the two buildings. Thirty years later and with three more renovation projects now under our belts, we are still hard at it - grow, build, grow, build. This past Monday we moved our Transportation Department into our newly renovated 'warehouse' space complete with adjustable desks and open layout. Now that we have the team moved in we are on to the next project!

I am proud of how far the Tuscano organization has come to bring technology and innovation into our business processes and I never want us to lose the belief that we can 'figure it out'. I am equally proud of the 'do it yourself spirit' that drives us to improve and grow.

So what do you think of when you think about insurance products Tuscano can write for you? I gave you three great clues in this newsletter: technology professionalscyber liability and data breach for one. Contractors and building trades are another and of course, commercial transportation and garage. We love the challenge of providing you with a solution to your insurance problem.

Next time call us, we'll either build it or figure it out!
