Warren Buffett

It may be work, it may be a hobby, but I believe the happiest people are those who love what they do. Right now, I'll venture to say that players on the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team love their job!

I can't write to you this week and not mention my hometown hockey team and give a shout out to the Pittsburgh Penguins who won the Stanley Cup, the NHL's championship trophy last Sunday night. It was quite doubtful half way through the season that the Pens would get much more than an early round draft pick! Think about it - this is the first year that Sidney Crosby, the Pens team captain, did not get voted onto the NHL All-Star Team in his eleven-year career. The Penguin management fired their coach mid-season. The team's seasoned and celebrated goalie was injured near the end of the season and a twenty-two-year-old rookie goalie named Matt Murray defended the net in his place.

This is a story of an organization that never gave up. A team that knew they were better than their competition and the players - individuals - who love what they do and make it their best job in the world. That's what I want for every person at the Tuscano organization, and that's what I hope for you.

Before anyone can score a goal, they have to learn to skate. Not only that, they have to learn to skate while someone else is hitting them. And they have to learn to pass the puck, not only to another player, but to the place that player will be 2 seconds from now. The best teams synchronize that play like a fine-tuned engine.

Your Tuscano Underwriting teams are highly-skilled professionals, too.  Their ability to assess the risk, evaluate the markets, analyze coverage and negotiate rates comes with years of experience and hard work. They don't stop there! They know they are in the problem-solving business. Behind every submission is someone with an insurance need, and it is our job to fill that need. Like any great team, they work to win more than they lose, but in the end, we love what we do and the relationships we build along the way.

It's my turn to ask, "What can Tuscano write for you?" I love to hear what you need in the brokerage and surplus lines marketplace. Chances are you may have a drone to insure, a hovercraft to place, or an apartment complex by the water! We love to get your calls that start out "Can you write..." It makes our job fun! Even better, what we do by providing financial security to your clients is important and rewarding. Just like the Pittsburgh Penguins, we're the small-market team with big aspirations and we love to do our jobs!

You will also be glad to know I shaved (well really just trimmed) my playoff beard. It is hard to say which brought us more luck, the beard or Warren Buffet holding up the Pens jersey!

Thanks for listening!
