News & Views: Independence Day - the Movie

Newsletter – Friday, July 1, 2016
One of my all-time favorite movies is Independence Day with Will Smith. How appropriate that this weekend is the 20th anniversary of this classic alien invasion movie. I like that there is romance, humor, action, and yes - aliens! You have to appreciate a young Will Smith as the hero and nerdy Jeff Goldblum capable and ready to save the day. Best of all is Bill Pullman as the U.S. President giving his send-off speech, inspiring not just the characters in the movie, but the audience as well. Independence Day is the classic Saturday afternoon cable movie - if you happen to click through it, you will most likely settle in to watch.

I hope that while you enjoy this 3-day weekend, you take the time to reflect on our country's Independence and all that it means. Yes, it was won with great sacrifice, it was formed in hardship, but it endures because of the will of the American people to live up to the ideals that our country was conceived by. Beating our chests doesn't make us a great nation - our collective character and values do.

Here's a little inspiration from Independence Day's President Pullman to get your weekend started:
Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in this history of mankind.
Mankind -- that word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests.
Perhaps it's fate that today is the 4th of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom, not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution -- but from annihilation. We're fighting for our right to live, to exist. And should we win the day, the 4th of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice:
"We will not go quietly into the night!
We will not vanish without a fight!
We're going to live on!
We're going to survive!"

Of course, we are closed on Monday, but will be open Tuesday morning ready to write your brokered business.

Have a great holiday weekend!
