News & Views: Win Big With Tuscano!

I remember years ago when the lottery was first introduced in Pennsylvania, my dad, a staunch Republican, refused to play and if you happened to bring it up he'd just snarl at you. As a kid, I thoroughly believed that playing the lottery was right up there with driving a 'foreign car'.
 
It took a long time, but I have finally quit hiding my Volkswagen in the garage every time dad comes over. And even though I will from time to time buy a lottery or Powerball ticket, it doesn't come easy. But just like every other Joe Schmoe out there, I will play the lottery when the jackpot gets uber-large. Hey! Someone has to win it, why can't it be me? Plus, when everyone else in the office is pooling money to buy tickets, I do not want to be the only one that shows up for work on Monday morning!
 
Think about it - 50 years ago people went to jail for betting on numbers! But there is no turning back, not since the state has come to depend on the revenue. So by my reckoning, the state is now in the numbers and entertainment business - and the insurance business! 
 
I am pretty content not winning the lottery because I love what I do and the people I work with. There are days when getting the bind order feels like we've won the jackpot and that isn't based on how big the account is. Most of the time the reward is in helping you, making your day, or solving your problem. Writing brokerage business is not easy - we miss a lot more than we hit (but we at least have better percentages than most major league baseball players!) I don't think a lottery jackpot is a viable retirement plan, so that just means we have to work our magic so that the Tuscano Agency becomes your first choice in a wholesaler. 
 
Speaking of magic, we recently wrote a liquor account that had gone 'bare' for a couple of years and had open claims. On first look, this just didn't seem like an account we'd have much luck with. Our underwriter got to work and first turned the indication and then some solid numbers. It wasn't easy, but she was happy to dig in and worked hard to get the job done. Frankly, in this market, we are happy for you to send us your tough stuff and the business your standard markets have declined. We can do a great job for you especially when you are running up against a deadline.
