Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Underwrite/Rate/Submit/Quote new business and renewal business.
- Display the ability to work on highly complex risks (higher values, multiple coverages and layers).
- Successfully solicit and write new business.
- Manage and maintain a book of business including new and renewal business.
- Process renewals/remarkets when necessary to ensure it is handled within established time standards.
- Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of insurance products, coverages and pricing practices, including market trends. Ability to educate and explain this information to external customers.
- Deep understanding and knowledge of commercial lines insurance products, coverages and pricing practices, including market trends. Be able to educate and explain to agents and other underwriters internally.
- Effectively negotiate terms, coverages, pricing and commission with carriers and/or agents.
- Develop effective investigative skills to review risks.
- Bring carrier contacts and relationships onboard with the Tuscano Agency.
- Demonstrate the ability for advanced account selection to determine what risks are the best opportunities to write profitable business.
- Consistently meet/exceed growth goals and ensure profitability.
- Build a connection with our customers to facilitate more submissions. Cultivate key broker relationships in the region to maintain a steady stream of business within our underwriting appetite.
- Work jointly with other teams within the organization to promote cross selling.
- Coordinate agency visits (in-person/virtual) to build book of business.
- Attend professional, agency and insurance related events.
- Meet profitability, retention and written premium goals determined by management.
- Submit bind requests to brokerage markets with subjectivities addressed. Coordinate additional binding steps.
- Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and manuals, as well as federal and state insurance laws and regulations.
- Help and/or direction with policy correspondence as needed.
- This position is considered an exempt position.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Competencies & Qualifications:
- Three-five years of experience in insurance is required.
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- Display the ability to comfortably communicate, visit and discuss opportunities with agents and carrier partners in-person, on the phone and through email.
- Self-starter who independently seeks out opportunities to learn and succeed.
- Build strong relationships with markets and retail producers.
- Collaborate with team members and build positive working relationships.
- Possess a knowledge of markets utilized by Tuscano (brokerage and MGA) and understand each company’s appetite.
- Understand classification of risks and the factors used to determine rates.
- Understand and explain basic insurance principles.
- Ability to prioritize work in an effective manner.
- Excellent customer service skills that align with our customer service expectations.
- Exhibit proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office.
Location & Travel:
The Tuscano Agency is located in Greensburg PA, approximately 35 miles SE of Pittsburgh. Candidates will be expected to come to Tuscano for training and after that on a quarterly basis. Remote/hybrid opportunities are available. This candidate will need to be comfortable traveling to agents, carrier partners and networking events. Some overnight travel may be required.
Required Licenses:
- Hold a current Property & Casualty Producer License.
- Obtain Surplus Lines License within six months.
