Dreaming

Last night I dreamed that instead of writing this newsletter myself I had copied someone else’s text. I’m no interpreter of dreams, but I am pretty sure I was stressed out about having something to say!

Then I got to thinking. I’ve been attending the same church for nearly 30 years and I’ve heard the rector repeat more than a few of his anecdotes. So maybe every newsletter topic doesn’t have to be an original! Of course I can always gibe about the insurance industry but even it hasn’t been moving much lately. Sort of like my stock portfolio. To be quite honest, even I get tired of writing about me and my foodie fix, or Southwest Airlines and their ridiculously good customer service.

If it comes down to taking another motorcycle trip with my father or a Grand Trek through the National Parks with my family, I guess I will just have to make the sacrifice. But something has to give soon otherwise I will be writing newsletters in my dreams and you will have to start reading them in yours!

There is a lot of talk in the marketplace about cyber liability, which Tuscano can certainly help you with. I think one of the concerns many have is how to consult on, or sell a product you may not feel ‘expert’ on? You may be the iPhone guru in your office, but that’s a far cry from being a cyber-security specialist! As with any insurance coverage, establish the exposure and work your way from there. A good place to begin is to find out whether a client handles or stores customer or employee data. Next, you have to ask if that data contains financial information? After that, ask if it contains personally identifiable information? I think you can agree that 99.9% of the business owners you work with (excluding the bar owners for reasons I won’t repeat here) will give you a certifiable ‘Yes’. Your final hurdle is to explain how this coverage protects them, including the financial harm that can happen if they go ‘bare’. If that fails – just buy them a VHS copy of the 1995 movie Hackers!

If you have questions about this coverage or need us to hook you up with an application, give Karen, Sandy, Debbie, or Dina in our Casualty Department a call. We have several markets both admitted and non-admitted with minimums starting as low as $750.

I should also let you know Tuscano is having our annual underwriting meeting this Wednesday August 19th for all of our underwriting staff, both commercial and personal lines. They will be unavailable after 3:45PM that day; so don’t wait until the end of the day to call us to bind your quote! Of course the rest of the office will be available to assist you with certificates, financing, accounting, or other policy services.

You know, I feel so much better after writing this newsletter. So much for expensive therapy!
