Every week our management team gathers for a “Huddle.” It’s a 30-minute meeting to talk about leadership, customer service, and the like. We all take turns bringing a topic with a supporting article, podcast, or quick video. Last week the topic concerned how to lead your team if you have been promoted from the ranks, or in other words, how to manage people that are/were your friends. The article we read suggested, “don’t hire friends!”. Well, that ship has sailed here at Tuscano; we hire friends, we hire moms, cousins, nieces, and husbands. And I am a full supporter of this strategy. 

When Bill was running the agency, we could have advertised a friends and family special! But I will also admit that every Tuscano (by any relation) who worked here got ‘the Bill speech’; more would be expected of you, people will watch your behavior and you’ll have to work harder than everyone else, so no one thinks you got a ‘gimme’ job. Personally, I know I’m blessed because I get to work with my family. But the reason I love it here at the Tuscano Agency is because I work alongside some of the most interesting people in the industry!  I get to watch them make a difference to the people they serve.

There’s a lot happening around here, not the least of which is our tuscano.com facelift. After 10+ years, I’d say it was time to spruce things up a bit, wouldn’t you?
